چکیده

Binary descriptors have been very popular in recent years due to their computation and memory efficient capabilities. Many of them could deal with geometrical variations and linear intensity shifts, however, they were not examined for more complex brightness changes specifically, which might result of some internal conditions such as nonlinear camera capturing parameters or external conditions such as location of the light source, viewing angle, scene properties. Moreover, the existing binary descriptors are sensitive to photometric distortions such as noise and blur. In this study, our aim is developing a binary descriptor which is highly robust to complex brightness changes and photometric distortions. The preliminary results demonstrate the noticeable performance of the proposed method when the mentioned distortions were artificially added on testing images of an object recognition dataset. Keywords-binary descriptor; image understanding; memoryefficient; robust to photometric distortions

DPML-Risk: An Efficient Algorithm for Image Registration

Targets and objects registration and tracking in a sequence of images play an important role in various areas. One of the methods in image registration is feature-based algorithm which is accomplished in two steps. The first step includes finding features of sensed and reference images. In this step, a scale space is used to reduce the sensitivity of detected features to the scale changes. Afterw...

A Novel Binary Feature Descriptor for Accelerated Robust Matching

Stereo matching between images is at the base of many computer vision applications. Many traditional image features for matching focus on being robust to view-point changes with huge amount of calculation and memory storage, such as Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT). Binary Robust Independent Elementary Features (BRIEF) is an efficient alternative to traditional SIFT-like features, but i...

Convolution Comparison Pattern: An Efficient Local Image Descriptor for Fingerprint Liveness Detection

We present a new type of local image descriptor which yields binary patterns from small image patches. For the application to fingerprint liveness detection, we achieve rotation invariant image patches by taking the fingerprint segmentation and orientation field into account. We compute the discrete cosine transform (DCT) for these rotation invariant patches and attain binary patterns by compar...

Neural Network Performance Analysis for Real Time Hand Gesture Tracking Based on Hu Moment and Hybrid Features

This paper presents a comparison study between the multilayer perceptron (MLP) and radial basis function (RBF) neural networks with supervised learning and back propagation algorithm to track hand gestures. Both networks have two output classes which are hand and face. Skin is detected by a regional based algorithm in the image, and then networks are applied on video sequences frame by frame in...

Determining the order of minimal realization of descriptor systems without use of the Weierstrass canonical form

A common method to determine the order of minimal realization of a continuous linear time invariant descriptor system is to decompose it into slow and fast subsystems using the Weierstrass canonical form. The Weierstrass decomposition should be avoided because it is generally an ill-conditioned problem that requires many complex calculations especially for high-dimensional systems. The present ...
